Thanks to all our donors past and future, we have just finished Dubong village water system. This means 2000 more Gambians now have clean water, improving their health and daily lives. We delivered the system for 6000stg,which will provide clean water for the village for the next 20 years, with villagers organising both the maintenance fund and the physical upkeep of the system.
In June, we finished the water system in Essau New Settlement on the North Bank. This village, home to 1,800 people, is now successfully using the system, paying for the water, and building a maintenance fund. The villagers did all the labor themselves, working alongside our engineer to make sure everything was done right.
The water system installed at the school in Jawlaba in March is working well, and we funded the fencing for a new vegetable garden next to the school. This will be included in the curriculum for students to learn gardening, while the mothers will develop a 50 by 75-meter vegetable garden.
This brings us to 23 village water systems completed to date, but funds are running low, and we still have 9 villages on our list without access to clean water.
